The Varese Golf Club, founded in 1897, was established in its current location in Luvinate in 1934.
The current course, originally designed by architects Gannon and Blanford and expanded to 18 holes in the mid-1950s, is a par 72 wavy and technically very interesting. Each hole, surrounded by the greenery of majestic centuries-old plants, offers glimpses of incomparable panoramic beauty that reach the Monte Rosa chain, the Maggiore, Varese and Monate lakes, as well as the hills of Sacro Monte and Campo dei Fiori, immediately at shoulders of the golf course.
The proximity of the Pre-Alps and the altitude (425 meters above sea level) allow our route to enjoy a pleasantly cool climate in the summer and never too harsh during the winter: our Club is in fact open all year round.
Thanks to its technical validity, the Varese Golf Club has hosted an Italian Open in the past and more recently, in 2012, a stage of the Challenge Tour, the second European professional circuit. Every year it is home to important national absolute and youth competitions and prestigious circuit finals.
The course is characterized by several dog-leg holes, by several gradients and by small greens. The most evocative hole is the 10, a downhill par 4 whose horizon opens onto Lake Varese and the Alps.
The Club House of the Varese Golf Club is an ancient convent, an example of Romanesque-Lombard architecture, built in the 12th century by “Magistri Comacini” which hosted the Benedictine nuns until the 15th century when San Carlo Borromeo decreed its closure.
The building is characterized by the magnificent cloister and the recently restored church. At the entrance to the room where the awards are held today, you can admire frescoes probably dating back to 1500. From the terrace you can enjoy a magnificent view of hole 1 and Lake Varese.
The Club House houses the Secretariat, the Restaurant and the Pro Shop.
