Since 1958, when the PGA switched to its current batting game format, the only player who is 50 or older and holds at least a share of the 36-hole lead is Sam Snead, who turned 54 in 1966. Aged 50 and over, it was Fred Couples at the 2013 Masters to secure a place in the top five by the 36 holes of a major championship. The oldest player to ever win a major is Julius Boros at the 1968 PGA Championship (48 years, 4 months, 18 days).
